We carried a news snippet yesterday on Linksys’s latest launches. I came across this one-liner of a post by Andy where he seems to be impressed by Linksys’ new Wi-Fi handsets. Therefore, I decided to have a deeper look and see what the cool factors in the new launches - WIP300 and WIP330 are.
While both phones are IEEE 802.11G standard compliant and have support for SIP v2 standards, users can select the phone and VoIP service provider of their choice or specific needs. Anyway, both the phones require a broadband connection, a wireless router or access point with DHCP server, not to mention an activated VoIP service.
About the OS, both WIP300 and WIP330 run Windows CE kernel and libraries that includes Internet Explorer, with Linksys’s own modifications.
Well, the top-end WIP330 also includes the following:
a) QoS (Quality of Service)
b) Built-in Internet browser (that can connect to wireless networks including public hotspots that require the usual username and password, which can also be used to access emails, browse websites and receive video stream casts)
c) Support for auto-provisioning using HTTP or HTTPS for configuration and upgrades
d) Fast Hotspot Authentication
e) 2.2″ colour LCD display
f) 3-way conferencing, Call hold and resume, and Caller ID
g) Enhanced power savings
All these features make the WIP330 a USD 369.99 phone (estimated street price).
The WIP300 has the following features:
a) Wi-Fi survey tool
b) Connection status button
c) 1.8-inch color LCD display
d) Call forwarding, call transfer, call history
e) Backlit keypad
f) RF and battery level indication
g) USB charger interface
h) Wi-Fi Phone Requirements
The WIP300 comes at an estimated street price of USD 219.99
Both these phones are already available through Linksys authorized dealers.
Now I know why Andy seemed to be excited about the latest releases. :-)
Specifications and features of the phones via Geekzone. Thanks.
