US-based VoIP giant AT&T Inc has acquired a million-dollar contract from TRW Automotive Holding Corp to provide an Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IP VPN) solution, which would integrate about 170 TRW locations in 25 countries across the five continents.

TRW Automotive Holdings Corp is one of the largest automotive equipment suppliers with 63,000 employees. It manufactures automotive braking, steering and suspension systems and supplies these products to more than 40 recognized vehicle producers.

The automotive company explains the two-year deal with AT$T is vital for the growth of both the companies. The IP VPN agreement allows TRW’s network to operate on AT&T’s Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) platform, which would considerably increase in bandwidth at a lower cost. As a result, TRW will support Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and business process collaboration globally.

Therefore, Darryl Staskowski, infrastructure director for TRW says,

The transition from frame relay to MPLS significantly improves our network architecture by providing any-to-any connectivity and Class of Service (COS) prioritization for key enterprise applications on a global basis.
