No more communication gap in the public hospitals in California. The patients from here will not be compelled to speak in English from now onwards. They can explain their health problems in their own languages. It was possible due to the introduction of VoIP and Video technology in the Health Care Interpreter Network (HCIN) system.
America’s leading VoIP service provider AT&T joined with Paras and Associates to combine both video and voice technology in the HCIN system.
They have successfully concluded a project called ‘Language Bridging’ involving the implementation of the Remote Medical Interpreter Bank in North California using Voice and Video technologies to enhance the HCIN system.
This is the first major HCIN system of the world to include video conferencing and VoIP technologies for language bridging.
As designed by AT&T, the HCIN has access to trained interpreter professionals in hundreds of different languages. The healthcare units that took part in the project are San Joaquin General Hospital, San Mateo Medical Center, Contra Costa Health Services, Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center and Riverside County Regional Medical Center.
These hospitals use videoconferencing and various telephone technologies to breach the communication gap between doctors, hospital staff and patients.
