In an effort to enhance its networking infrastructure offerings for VoIP service providers, American telecom giant Avaya has decided to acquire Ubiquity Software Corporation for nearly $144 million in cash.
Ubiquity pioneers itself in various types of software development for the converged voice, video and data services. It includes deployment platforms, development tools and integration technology. Its SIP Application Server has been deployed by major telecommunication carriers in the world.
Ubiquity, CEO Ian McLarent said,
We believe that there are strong synergies between Ubiquity’s core software platform, service creation framework, and applications and Avaya’s portfolio of enterprise products.
A Yankee Group study projects $4.7 billion market for SIP-based Applications Servers by 2009. Avaya plans to grow in this area with this acquisition.
