In the wake of concerns over government’s delay in ensuring the telecom regulator more powers, BT Ireland has ruled out the launch of its new VoIP service for the residential customers.
BT’s CEO, Danny McLaughlin stated that the government should provide ComReg more power if the growing BT was to offer Irish customers the services widely available in other markets.
BT has concluded business level talks with ComReg intended at making the market more attractive for rivals to challenge Eircom. BT group is providing VoIP services for the residential customers in the major countries of the world. However, it has some reservations for residential customers of Ireland due to imperfect broadband market in that country. BT made it clear that it would launch more innovative products when ComReg brought amendments to allow BT to acquire all aspects of the phone service it provided to customers, without having relied on Eircom.
