By VoIP, it is no more Skype. Carrier service providers are now offering free or very low-cost international call services throughout the year. In other words, the VoIP market sees each day a new player! The latest one to join the VoIP race is Coms with a network of two million numbers for users in the UK.
Disparate to Skype service, Coms will work on all devices that support the SIP protocol to provide simple, cheap internet telephone service to a wide range of PDAs, mobiles and landlines.
The broadband company claims that its customers would be powered to select their own free personal number from a range of two million numbers as decided by UK telecom regulator Ofcom. These numbers will be distributed in 185 different geographic areas codes nationwide.
Coms’ corporate development officer Richard Bennett comments,
Integration of Coms number with existing handsets will be the linchpin of this sector. Our phones are reminiscent of mobile handsets, which [bring] users a sense of familiarity that will drive the uptake of our service, users will quite literally take their landline with them.
Coms will offer free incoming calls. The calls between Coms users are also free. The company would charge low rates to calls made to landlines and cellular phones in the UK and other countries .
