VoIP may have a number of security problems in a corporate networking; however the steady fall in price and benefits of this technology has engrossed small and medium enterprises to deploy VoIP in their communication set ups.
The Unified Communications Forum of the Communications Management Association (CMA) has expressed that small businesses enterprises are interested to go with VoIP technology because of its complexity and cost effectiveness.
With the price of VoIP services and devices rapidly falling in recent months, the business enterprises looks forward to take the advantages of this technology despite security issues.
Maren Bennette of CMA explains,
It is the fall in the price of IP handsets, together with the simplification of IP telephony systems (at the lower end of the manufacturers’ product portfolio) that has made it more attractive for smaller companies and organisations to install IP telephony and make use of VoIP services.
He added that VoIP has the potential to improve organisational effectiveness and thus improve business or organisational performance.
One of the greatest advantages of VoIP in a corporate networking is that it allows employers to work securely away from the office especially when unified communications systems were implemented.
The unified applications include unified messaging, audio and video conferencing. It enables corporate workers to access to basic communication services in different locations without travel and the integration of fixed and mobile communications.
