D-Link displayed the first flip-style mobile Wi-Fi phone that includes a complete softphone from TelTel for SIP-based IP telephony, thus enabling users to make free calls whenever they enter a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Named DPH-540, the handset looks like a normal cellular phone. However, it is not a hybrid phone and is not compatible with GSM or CDMA networks.
Anyway, this is a pretty lightweight set as it weighs just 3.74 ounces. It has a backlit colour LCD and keypad too much like a normal mobile.
This is on display at the Sprint VON Conference and Exhibition until March 17, 2006 at San Jose Convention Center.
For a phone like it, I guess that the price tag of $300 is a bit too much. Anyway, new things come with a higher price-tag notwithstanding the fact that others like it will soon flood the markets.
