Staying with Vonage for the time being, I would like to mention a small details that might have escaped many who had been following VoIP news. Actually, Vonage announced yesterday that that more than one million of its subscribers now have Enhanced 911 service. [For beginners, E911 is a feature that automatically associates a physical address with the calling party’s telephone number.]

Jeffrey A Citron, Chairman and Chief Strategist, Vonage said in a statement,

With one million subscriber lines turned up with E911 service in just 9 months, Vonage is leading the fastest nomadic E911 deployment in telecommunications history. Our goal is to get every Vonage customer help when they need it and we will not stop working with the FCC, regulators, Congress and PSAPs until there is equal access to E911 for Vonage’s customers.

Anyway, this now makes 70% of its customers having E911. I must say that given the enormity of the task and tight deadlines, Vonage actually did a pretty good job indeed. Other companies can emulate Vonage in a few things.
