Skype is growing everywhere. As per the latest count, the popular P2P VoIP Company has registered 171 million customers. It has added 400 million SkypeOut minutes in 2006. However, its owner eBay is still disappointed with its performance when it comes to revenue.
Announcing Q4 financial report, eBbay’s CEO Meg Whitman said,
While Skype continues to experience stellar growth in terms of its user and adoption rates, the monetization efforts we outlined at the time of the acquisition are not developing as quickly as we had hoped.
Skype has generated $195 million in revenue during 2006. In the fourth quarter, its revenue is something around $66 million, while it was $50 in during Q3.
The figure is still discouraging to eBay since it has invested a huge amount ($2.6 billion) to acquire it in 2005.
Following the report, Skype has evolved a new model to generate more revenues for eBay. It has introduced more and more features to lure the business enterprises who constitute one third of its global community.
