According to a Research and Markets study, ‘Hosted VoIP Services in Europe‘, European companies are more willing than their U.S. counterparts to make the management of their VoIP services an external affair. The reason given for this in the report is ‘lack of internal IP skills and fragmentation of the European telecommunications infrastructure‘.
It is not just peculiar to European firms alone. Even US firms are beginning to experience a shortage of qualified IP communications personnel.
I am not really surprised that VoIP companies are finding it difficult to find qualified IP communications personnel as they have never focused on this critical aspect of making the business a sustainable one. With so many VoIP companies that have mushroomed now, it was only natural for the companies to have its focus on marketing rather than grooming a set of skilled workers for VoIP management and security concerns. So, outsourcing as always makes a smart step.
In the future, not only European, but almost all US VoIP companies would be outsourcing VoIP security and management services save a handful of the big fishes. I see there is no way out for them here.
