In a major boost to the 3Com Corporation , the Federal Communication Commission(FCC) has approved the latest 3Com 3108 VoIP Phone and asserted that it is a 802.11 b/g WLAN VoIP phone based on Session Initiation Protocol(SIP), not on Skype.
The wireless phone appears like a clamshell mobile phone and includes nine configurable speed dial number, an external 2.4GHz antenna and a local phone book. The users can access it on the 1.8′’ color LCD.
The unique feature of the 3Com VoIP phone is that its firmware could be remotely upgraded over Wi-Fi. Truly, the 3Com phone compatible with SIP v2 signaling protocol gives an impression of a cell phone, the users will feel while talking to their friends and relatives. It ensures users to access email (SMS is optional). However, the company is yet to fix the release date and price of the phone.
