A Munich court has accused Skype of violating the General Public License (GPL) version2 by shipping Linux-enabled phones without giving access to the source code. The VoIP giant may be imposed a small fine for the breach of regulation, explains the court ruling.
The lawsuit filed by GPL Group explains that Skype sells WSKP100 phones without providing the users source code. The WSKP100 phones are developed by SMC in the European countries such as UK and Germany.
As per the GPL rules, it is mandatory for a company to enable the users to access the source code of the Linux-based phones. Skype has reportedly promoting the selling of Linux phones in its website.
