Garret Rogers in Googling Google revealed that the Google Talk v1.0.0.91 is released without much ado and is available on the net for download. However, the new Google Talk is yet to be released officially. (Is that relevant now?)
I promptly, downloaded it and was surprised to see that the new Google Talk has changed quite a bit with MSN/Yahoo IM-like features. Nah, not quite actually. It has only added the feature to add a picture/avatar to your IM just like Yahoo IM or MSN does. The chat box also highlights your message in a different colour. You can see your friends’ image/avatar just like you can in Yahoo!
One more feature added if I can call that feature. It is just that two buttons are added at the bottom of the main window for adding and viewing contacts. Yahoo! has it on the top. There is also a shortcut button that you can click to view your mails. Of course it will open in a new browser.
I dunno what is happening to GoogleTalk. Looks like old wine in new bottle. But the simple Google Talk has certainly lost its innocence.
Emoticons and other features might follow soon. There is nothing there to be excited about.
Here is the link from where you can download it.
That’s all folks!
Thanks Garret for the info.
