Deadly days are in store for VoIP as the hackers are coming up with most advanced programs to disrupt the IP-based services next year, MessageLabs, one of the largest security firms has warned the millions of online phone users and IM service users worldwide.

The security firm acknowledged,

2007 will see VoIP become a prime target for phishing attacks whereby spoof phone calls are made to victims to extract their credit card details or steal their identity using third party software.

The hackers have adopted a converged approach (email, websites and instant messaging (IM) programs) to target the users this year, the security firm explained. IM is heading towards a serious security threat next year, it added.

Explaining Email spam to proliferate, the MessageLabs said,

[Image] spam will become much more prevalent, due to the inability of traditional spam filter software to detect minute changes in the image email.

Is VoIP revolution at its budding stage? After all, the technology has come a long way to dominate the mainstream. However, it is not all what we except from VoIP. This technology has just crossed the halfway.
