While Microsoft is gearing up itself to enter into VoIP market by launching a series of VoIP-related products and software, Allentown-based Agere Systems has brought a serious allegation that the software giant has stolen its VoIP technologies between 2002 and 2003.

The suit filed on 15th March 2007, explains Microsoft has obtained confidential information regarding internet videoconferencing when it was interested in acquiring Agere.

Agere further explains Microsoft ended the negotiations terming it had achieved a breakthrough in its own undisclosed efforts. Agere claims the breakthrough was nothing but its own proprietary technology, using which Microsoft developed VoIP products.

The company is now seeking a ban on Microsoft sold products that are developed in the line with Agere’s technologies. It has also sought damages from the software giant.

It would be too early to predict a Verizon vs. Verizon like situation. As of now, we have to see to what extend the allegations are true.
