With In-Stat report candidly figures out nearly 12.96 million unlicensed virtual VoIP carries (VVCs) by 2011 in China, it is easily foreseeable how illegal VoIP mushrooming in the country.
The report further says nearly 13 million Chinese customers will be accessing illegal VoIP services in the next four years. The number of unlicensed VVCs was 1.23 million at the end of 2006. It would touch 12.96 by the end of 2011. Interestingly, the legal service provider will increase from 720,000 now to touch 9.53 million by 2011, the report says.
Recently, the Ministry of Information Industry has ruled that traditional service providers have the right to provide legal VoIP services. Hence, the VVCs are running their network illegally with modest phone number resources. They offer only outgoing calling service to the customers.
Speaking about the report, In-Stat analyst Kevin Li says,
However, due to intense competition among voice service providers, and VVCs’ lower price compared with traditional long-distance calling or prepaid [internet phone card] services, VVCs are having success.
