If Maroc IT Blog’s prediction comes true, then Skype will be shackled in the Moroccan VoIP market very soon. In a story titling AmiVois vs. Skype in Morocco, the blog anticipates that AmiVois is on its way to give toughest challenge to Skype in the North African market.
AmiVois is a Skype like VoIP services offered by Swiss-based Amitelo. It is a SIP based VoIP softphone which enables users to talk and chat without any cost. The company charges a very nominal rate for outbound calls to normal fixed net and mobile telephones like Skype.
Plainly speaking the softphone has following features:
1.Provides Tele-conferences with up to eight online friends
2.Integrated Chat-System
3.Unlimited personal address book
4.Provides Video-Conferencing
5.Online file transmission
6.Informs status of friends in the Unlimited Personal address book
7.Call history
Going the features, we can assume that AmiVois appears like to be Skype. Perhaps based on this assumption, the blog has gone to the extent of saying once the service comes to market, the access to Skype would be restrained. If Skype is blocked and AmiVois would be successfully launched and quickly adopted. In this way, Skype will lose its dominance in the region.
Good prediction! However, it is an uphill task to block Skype. Since Dubai has attempted to block Skype but somehow the service has been reached to the people via mail by HeyU.
