Om Malik in his usual self writes about emerging VoIP player JaJah and says that this Austrian-VoIP start-up that wants to challenge Skype. Om Malik says that it doesn’t need much effort if it wants to hang Skype for Skype’s client sucks up 95% of the CPU power on a MacBook and a PC. (But 95%?? Ok, ask Om).
Now that Sequoia Capital has invested in JaJah, Om wonders what will be so special with JaJah. It is a clogged market already and for a new entrant, it would be not so easy. Even with a superior VoIP product, challenging Skype is not going to be easy, after all they are the first movers and very dynamic too, though, some of its moves looked really stupid like the exclusive Intel deal. *heh* Anyway, Om notes an interesting detail here and thais is JaJah’s US headquarters are situated at Sequoia offices.
Anyway, nearly all VoIP startups these days aspires to beat Skype, how far JaJah will succeed is anyone’s guess.
