Skype may be boastful of its millions downloads round the year, a Jupiter Research study tells a different story of this popular VoIP application.
In its latest report ‘Skype and VoIP-Quantifying the Hype in the UK’, Jupiter Research claims only four percent of VoIP customers regularly use Skype services. Most of them are young users. Skype’s owner eBay is now facing a major challenge in the UK market as several ISPs have existing telephony services that they want to defend, it adds.
The report makes a surprising revelation regarding the state of UK VoIP while saying only 12 percent of UK customers use VoIP services on a regular basis.
However, the report concludes with a positive note for Skype. It asserts that the popular peer-to-peer VoIP application would attract more and more customers with the growth of WiFi mobile VoIP phones that do not require PCs.
