
In its latest report entitling The Shot Heard Round VoIP World : Microsoft Targets the IP PBX Market via Unified Communications, the telecom research firm IDC reveals that the Microsoft’s VoIP initiatives will pose significant disruption to traditional market models in future.
The report looks into the Microsoft’s recently announced unified communications and its initiatives around VoIP to enhance its existing product set.
Tom Valovic, program director at IDC quotes,
Although Microsoft is well positioned to address VoIP opportunities in the enterprise, doing so in the carrier domain will prove to be more challenging.
IDC explains that Microsoft’s venture into the broader VoIP market that targets the current PBX and IP PBX vendors would result in a double advantage as company taps this profitable market and exploits VoIP to improve its existing real-time collaboration suite and desktop productive tools.
