SingTel, the largest telecommunication company of Singapore and Nokia have joined forces to provide VoIP over WiFi using dual mode telephony solution on Nokia E60, Nokia E61 and Nokia N80 Internet Edition.
SingTel has nearly 330 Wireless hotspots in Singapore. It will bring the VoWLAN services to these hotpots to provide a select group of SingTel mobile users to make VoIP calls using Nokia phones. These phones support SIP based VoIP operating on 2G, 3G and WLAN networks.
Chris Carr, General Manager of Nokia Singapore stated, ‘Consumers can now experience the power of mobility and benefit from accessing Internet services and calls without being connected to a computer’.
SingTel’s full pledged VoIP service would be available for the customers next year.
