Skype which released its latest version 2.0 this week, with the new video telephony for only XP users has hinted to cover other platforms including Linux and Macintosh soon. Company is no further interested in supporting video calling in Windows 2000 and older versions as they think the video quality demanded by people could not be supported on older machines.
Skype’s free VoIP services have been around for a year now on all platforms. James Bilefield, the company’s vice president of business development quoted:
“Today video calling is only for Windows, but our strategy in the past has been to roll out on other platforms reasonably soon. It depends on feedback and testing - and we have dedicated teams on those platforms.”
Skype has partnered with Creative and Logitech to supply certified web-cams and headsets to use with its latest version.
