Security firm, Symantec announced that VoIP giant Skype has reached out an agreement with its local distributor, Workgroup for PC security solutions. The deal with Symantec will enable Skype to provide secure VoIP services to the residential as well as corporate customers.
Arno Fourie, Symantec product manager at Workgroup says,
Small business owners and home office users are especially vulnerable to potential security risks when conducting business over multiple wireless and fixed networks.
As part of the deal, Skype has certified Symantec’s two vital security products Norton Internet Security and Norton AntiVirus 2007, which are highly essential for forming a secure networking by evading phishing problems. Now, they fulfill Skype’s strict standards for security, quality and usability.
Skype had signed a similar deal with McAfee in 2006 and approved a number of McAfee products including McAfee Internet Security Suite 2006, McAfee VirusScan 2006 and McAfee Personal Firewall 2006.
No doubt, Skype has a global community for its innovative VoIP services. However, it is still under scanner due to security reasons. Skype is widely criticized for its P2P software on the ground that it disrupts secure corporate networking.
