I should not repeat what I have said a number of times that VoIP threats traditional telecom service providers. We all know this very well. So, I am not reading too much about the latest Analysys report on VoIP vs. Telecoms.

One of interesting revelation of the report, which I found is the immense popularity of Skype in the next five years. According to the Analysys report, Skype will kill five percent of telecoms revenue by 2011. Figuratively, the amount is something around $18.2 billion.
Although, VoIP is not so popular as of now, the demand for this technology would be sky-high in the next five years. The users are slowly but steadily adopting this technology due to low cost calling facilities and user-friendly applications.

Stephen Sale, the author and Senior Analyst says,

Online communities and portals create a market for communications that occupy a middle ground between one-to-one and one-to-many interactions. The success of many of these services calls into question established ideas of user behavior, and suggests alternative means of addressing the communications market.

At the same time, the FCC ruling has its deep impact on current VoIP service. The regulatory body has decided to provide same rights to VoIP service providers as established telecom service providers.
