skype worm

Think twice before using Skype. The security researchers have made a shocking revelation that a new-found worm is targeting Skypers through chats. The worm is known by different names such as Ramex, Skipi or Pykspa.

This is another blow to Skype. The worm uses Skype chats to send malicious JPG file, which appears as a link. When the user downloads the file, it infects their computers. The problem seems to be serious.

Skype left no time to warn its customers about the worm. In its official blog, Skype announced,

Please note that Skype users only become infected after they have downloaded the link and run the malicious software. The chat message, of which there are several versions, is cleverly written and may appear to be a legitimate chat message, which may fool some users into clicking on the link.

The customers who are accessing Skype for Windows versions must be cautious at the worm. The Ramex A virus prompts them to download the file that appears in their chats. If they click the link, then dialog box will pop up insisting them to save or run the file.

It is not the first time that Skype is under scanner for security reasons, the Skypers had come across such instances so many times . Hence, it is high time for Skype to develop a secure VoIP network.
