Germany-based Deutsche Telekom, the parent of t-mobile-parent-enters-into-risky-voip-business_28T-Mobile has invested in Jajah, an innovative VoIP start-up from Austria. The investment marks entry of mobile phone service providers in the risky VoIP business.

Forbes has rightly pointed out in its story that T-Mobile parents bets on VoIP. Until now, T-Mobile was the forefront in criticizing VoIP technology due to the threat perception that it would bring down their current revenue streams.

Surprisingly, Deutsche Telekom took part in the recent $20 million funding round with Intel to get into VoIP through Jajah.

Jajah is a growing company. In a short span, it has registered more than two million customers. It has now emerged one of the strong competitors of existing players, like Vonage, Verizon and SunRocket. The investment by Deutsche Telekom will no doubt boost Jajah in its growth.

What about Deutsche Telekom? It is still fresh in our memories about eBay’s huge investment in Skype and struggling there after despite the fact Skype is much, much bigger than Jajah in terms of subscribers.
