TeliaSonera has emerged as the first operator in Europe to trial wireless IP telephony via WLAN for enterprise customers in cooperation with Nokia and Cisco Systems. The wireless IP telephony solution ensures that the employee only needs one phone regardless of his location. In the office, the phone would utilize the enterprise IP and WLAN network while outside the office the phone switches to the mobile network while features such as calendars, short dial numbers and contacts are maintained. The trials evaluated the technology’s functionality and usability, WLAN infrastructure, handover between WLAN and mobile and IP networks and security and voice quality in various environments.
