
As said earlier, Asia is now a potential market for VoIP with business enterprises keen to spend more on this voice technology. Therefore, the European VoIP service providers are now targeting Asian IP market. TeliaSonera is among them.
According to a Forbes report, the company is expanding its extensive international backbone network into Asia. Taking a major step in this direction, it has set up its first Point of Presence (PoP) in Hong Kong.
The company claims Asian customers will be immensely benefited from the high-quality VoIP and mobile services and the enable to connect locally to Europe’s IP-backbone, AS 1299.
Commenting on the new PoP up in Hong Kong, TeliaSonera International Carrier’s head Ingvar Larsson says,
The expansion into Asia is an important strategic step in our ambition to become one of the three largest global IP carriers.
The Hong Kong PoP up will be functional by the first of December this year, he added. It would be integrated with the TeliaSonera International Carrier international IP-backbone which has a bandwidth of multiple 10Gbps.
