The way the hackers manipulate the things to steal calls has been brought out by Broadband Business Forecast in its report “first major VoIP hacking scheme”.

As per the report, hackers have found a way to manipulate the IP stream.

They manipulate cost codes billing schemes which companies are using to track phone calls. Initially they ‘’zero out’ the code. By this process the billing system interprets the call as incomplete in turn not charging the caller.

The details of these calls are never received because charging is not done for these calls which happen to be unprocessed.

The billing houses charge by the processed call, even if it’s a call billed at zero. Data stream is stripped out from the zero calls before the billing data is sent.
