vonage-pitches-for-911-bill_28

Vonage has joined with Emergency dispatchers to move the senators to pass the bill, which would pave the way for the large-scale availability of E911 service to the customers by removing fears among the dispatch centers.

Acting on the FCC ruling in May 2005, Vonage took some outstanding steps to ensure 911 service to its customers. The VoIP giant has so far covered 95 percent of customers for its emergency services. Only five percent of customers are now required to cover for the service.

Vonage claims that the dispatch centers are concerned about the legal liability in case of failure of E911 calls and in some cases, VoIP service providers can’t access to the 911 facilities controlled by competitors.

Therefore, Vonage supports IP-Enabled Voice Communications and Public Safety Act, which make it compulsory for the telecom companies that control 911 facilities to connect to VoIP providers. At the same time, the act will relax legal liability from the dispatch centers.
