Vonage is now very near to achieve cent percent E911 coverage. Perhaps, it would become the first major company to achieve the magical mark fulfilling the FCC compliances. Is Vonage serious about Emergency VoIP services due to the blunder it committed in 2005?
From Gigaom, I came to know that Vonage is paying a sum of $500,000 to Texas and five other states to close up the high profile E911 lawsuit filed against the company in 2005 when its customers dialed 911 and did not get connected with emergency operators.
The failure in E911 service caused a Florida family to loss their three-old daughter. Following the incident, there were growing public demand for better emergence service from the VoIP service providers in general and Vonage in particular.
Texas received $220,000 and rest of the amount would be distributed among the five states.
Vonage claims that it has now ensured E911 service to 94 percent of its customers.
