Klausner Technologies has submitted a lawsuit against Vonage in federal court in Texas. The company claimed that Vonage is infringing on patents as part of its voice calling service. The company is demanding for $180 million for its damages and royalties.
Two large companies for supposedly infringing on patents already sued Vonage. Sprint-Nextel and Verizon Communications claimed that they had infringed on seven patents, which describe technology for completing phone calls between VoIP users and people using traditional public switched network.
According to Vonage, companies like Motorola, Time Warner and Qwest Communications are already licensing technology from Digital Packet on these VoIP patents. Therefore, Vonage can also acquire ownership and control over these agreements.
Klausner, which controls several VoIP technology patents, settled a lawsuit with Time Warner for using its technology in AOL voice mail. According to this settlement, AOL can use the patent. The financial terms of that pact were not disclosed.
