A few days back I wrote an article on the new Skype phone by Sony that doubles up as a mouse. The Sony VN-CX1 Skype phone is a flip-open phone and when used as a mouse it looks a bit rectangular in shape with a longish shape that at first glance doesn’t seem like a normal mouse that we generally use.
There is a mouse-cum-Skype phone in the market already for $39.95 called YapperMouse that was released in this year’s CES. It not only looks like a much more conventional mouse than Sony’s VN-CX1. Developed and designed by a 5-member team of students from Stanford University, the YapperMouse can not only give some serious competition to the VN-CX1 but with its attractive pricing and elegant and advanced features like speaker-phone and vibration alert can actually beat it.
According to an email sent to me by Harrison Tang, Marketing Officer, YapperMouse, the developers of this Skype phone have already filed 3 patents for this concept that they conceived about 6 months back.
The clam-shell YapperMouse will follow in three months and the wireless is in the development stage as well.
Let’s see how will it be eventually accepted by users in the coming future. In my opinion, it should do really well. I would be surprised if it didn’t.
Check the YapperMouse website here.

I don’t understand how this gadget the sony mouse talk and the yappernut gadget dubbed the yeppermouse, gets all the publicity when it only performs on voip and renages the purpose of traveling light so a pc user who happens to travel does not have to carry too many gagdets. Why have two peripherals to deal with when you only need one? Here is a real invention, in 2004 another company invented the Cellmouse and that one works on all cellphones which alot more people have. With the Cellmouse you do not have to have voip service at an aditional charge as well as you do not have to carry two gadgets. Check it out at www.cellmouse.com.
